New Jersey Wind Week Triumphs in Inaugural Event at NJIT
Newark, NJ — December 12, 2023 — The inaugural New Jersey Wind Week, held from December 4th to 7th at the Campus Center of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), marked a resounding success in advancing the dialogue and knowledge sharing within the burgeoning offshore wind industry.
Organized by NJIT with key support from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), this unique four-day event brought together industry leaders, experts, and stakeholders for a comprehensive exploration of offshore wind advancements.
Distinguished companies, recognizing the significance of the occasion, participated as partners in the Wind Week. PSEG, a prominent player, joined as a Silver Partner, along with esteemed Bronze Partners including Atlantic Shore Offshore Wind, Burns & McDonnell, Community Offshore Wind, Leading Light Wind, Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, OPAL-RT Technologies, and Rise Light & Power.
The Wind Week, co-chaired by Prof. Philip Pong from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering within the Newark College of Engineering at NJIT and Chad Watson from PSEG, featured two pivotal events — the offshore wind bootcamp training and the offshore wind technology conference.
The offshore wind bootcamp training, a cornerstone of the Wind Week, delivered a comprehensive crash course into the offshore wind industry.
Nine subject experts from both industry and academia provided insights through eight courses covering essential aspects such as wind farm overview, generation, cabling, grid interconnection, standardization, HVDC transmission, offshore construction, wind policy, and operation and maintenance.
The concurrent offshore wind technology conference addressed the needs of offshore wind stakeholders, fostering networking opportunities and knowledge exchange. The event showcased student poster presentations, where aspiring professionals shared their latest research findings on wind power. The conference is technically supported by the IEEE Magnetics Society North Jersey Chapter.
"The success of the New Jersey Wind Week underscores the commitment of NJIT and its partners to advancing the offshore wind industry. We are grateful for the support from the NJEDA and the active participation of industry leaders. The event not only provided valuable training but also served as a platform for collaboration and innovation," remarked Pong.
The resounding participation from industry leaders, the comprehensive training offered, and the engaging conference sessions all contribute to positioning the New Jersey Wind Week as a pivotal annual event for the offshore wind community.
Plans are already underway for the next edition, aiming to further elevate the discourse on offshore wind advancements and sustainability.
