The Lighthouse Program provides high school students and adults in Newark and throughout New Jersey an opportunity for personal growth and development.
Throughout the centuries people have built lighthouses for two different reasons: to see and be seen. For those traveling by boat or ship, the lighthouse allows them to see the approaching land. For those on land the lighthouse provides them an opportunity to be seen before the boat or ship crashes into them. Sometimes in life one needs to see while at other times one needs to be seen.
The Lighthouse Program offers individuals an opportunity to explore a specific topic related to personal growth. Such growth can help people understand the difference in perspective related to when they need to see compared to when they need to be seen.
Designed and customized for audiences 16 years of age and older, this one hour presentation and workshop can be customized to fit the schedules of high schools, colleges, non-profit organizations, and companies.
This important community-based program operates from three fundamental beliefs:
Since you are at the center of your relationships and your work, spend the most time working on yourself.
If you want to grow as a professional, you will need to grow as a person.
Realize working on yourself requires a daily commitment to lifelong learning.
For the July 2023 - June 2024 academic year, the theme is Travel Outside Your Comfort Zone.
The learning objectives of this year's program are designed to help attendees
Assess their relationship with being uncomfortable.
Identify how often they choose work that scares them.
Help themselves define what is enough.
Challenge themselves to determine how good they want to be.
